North Philadelphia in general is a pretty economically blighted area, with countless boarded up or abandoned residences, businesses, warehouses, and factories. One area that has especially hit hard times is Germantown Avenue from the Nicetown neighborhood directly west of Broad Street, through Erie and Fairhill, which run east of Broad Street, and well through Olde Kensington. The road itself dead-ends at I-95 in Fishtown.
However, what’s somewhat unique about Germantown Avenue in this stretch of road is that there are a lot of really awesome signs from old businesses that used to operate along the once thriving commercial corridor. Pictured above are some of the signs I happened to come across today. There are several others, but I picked what I felt were the six best.
