North Philadelphia has lots of boarded up properties, but this one is special.
At 1511 N. 33rd Street in Brewerytown lies the home of accomplished jazz musician and composer John Coltrane. Coltrane lived in this modest residence from 1952 until 1958, and recently the home has become to resemble all the other abandoned boarded up properties in Philly.
The good news, however, is that the house is finally going to be renovated and given the proper respect it deserves. Philadelphia is a city with a proud jazz history, of which Coltrane is a part. This is a positive action in one of my favorite neighborhoods in the city.
