If the “doomsday budget” for the School District of Philadelphia passes, here’s what will happen:
- No money for counselors or librarians
- No money for sports or extracurricular activities
- No funds for secretaries, aides, or summer school
- Three thousand district employees, including teachers, could be laid off.
With all those things potentially happening for the 2013-2014 school year, one has to wonder how the city’s leadership, the School Reform Commission’s leadership, and the state’s leadership can sleep at night knowing they are letting so many kids down.
By the way, for those of you keeping track at home, Mayor Nutter has said NOTHING about any of this, and neither has Governor Corbett. They might care about the thousands of kids who go to school in Philadelphia, but their actions and (lack of) words speak otherwise.
